A collection of works by American musician and artist Christian Marclay.
This book was published in conjunction with the artist's solo exhibition at the London gallery "White Cube" in 2015. The exhibition featured an ambitious range of works, including new works, that used water-based motifs throughout the exhibition.
The artist's recent paintings take as their starting point wet sounds that suggest painting as an act. Linking Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art, these paintings represent a continuation of the artist's long-standing experiments with the relationship between image and sound.
The book includes recent onomatopoeic paintings, as well as the films Pub Crawl (2014) and Surround Sounds (2014), and an installation view using found glassware.
Highly respected in the worlds of art and music for his body of work bridging the two, the artist brought a dynamic collaborative music performance team, led by London Sinfonietta, to the exhibition space, planning the various aspects and creating an on-site recording, pressing and screen printing environment on vinyl records within the gallery, which are documented in the book.
To reflect the scale and diversity of the exhibition, the book combines a variety of publishing techniques, paper types and sizes, making it a unique collection in itself.
Designed by Laurent Benner, who has collaborated with the author on numerous publications, this book is a worthy record of the work of one of the most creative and innovative contemporary artists, mastering many different media.
