A collection of works by Japanese painter Akira Yamaguchi. For the last 20 years, the artist has been highly acclaimed both at home and abroad as one of the few Japanese artists to have a unique style that combines classicism with modern irreverence. His large canvases have an unshakable narrative power, inviting the viewer to a journey through time and space. We encounter a chimera on a motorcycle and on horseback, a samurai drinking tea, and an androgynous god of war staring disdainfully at us. While paying homage to traditional paintings and 1970s manga, his works are also full of wit and humor. Hidden behind the graphic expressions is Japan's history itself, peppered with satire towards globalization and progress.
