A collection of works by Korean-born artist Do Ho Suh.
This book reveals how the artist transforms his three-dimensional works into sublime two-dimensional works.
Born in South Korea in 1962, the sculptor and installation artist is best known for his life-size fabric reproductions of his former homes, studios, and other structures.
Since collaborating with STPI - Creative Workshop & Gallery in Singapore in 2009, he has been using print and paper as a new medium to transform and recreate architectural spaces.
Produced using the groundbreaking technique of using thread as a sculptural material embedded in handmade paper, the Thread Drawings represent a significant new breakthrough for the artist.
"Gelatine Drawings" is an extension of the technical approach to capturing everyday three-dimensional structures, objects, and spaces in between, and reducing them to a single flat surface, creating foldable, movable, fantastical works.
In addition to frottages - pastel copies of the interior spaces of buildings and everyday objects - the book also includes etchings, lithographs and cyanotypes, all of which are done in order to reveal and record the details of the environment around him.
