This is photographer Endo Fumika's first photo book. It features a group of works themed around flowers, a motif that has been important to Endo since she began taking photographs. This book is a remake of the art book that was presented at the end of her undergraduate degree exhibition at Tokyo University of the Arts. The attached leaflet contains a text by Murakami Yuzuru, who published "Whose Art and Feminism Are?" this summer and is also known for his writing in magazines and online media.
The following is quoted from the publisher's website:
Ayakaendo (Endo Ayaka) is one of the most promising artists, highly acclaimed for her creative endeavors that embody an animistic world. Her work has expanded beyond the art world into the world of fashion, capturing the hearts of people of all ages.
The work that Roshin Books will be publishing as Ayakaendo's first photo collection is a remake of a large handmade book that Endo produced when he graduated from university. Flowers, an important motif in Endo's work, are photographed with various cameras and transferred onto fabric, which he then tore around the edges by hand.
By transferring the shape of the flowers exposed to light onto the soft support of fabric, the flowers acquire a new shape, and by tearing the fabric with Endo's will, they obtain a one-of-a-kind present. And the moment it is pasted onto paper, that time transforms into eternity.
Perhaps a projection of her own fluctuating emotions, or perhaps simply driven by the enchanting beauty of the flowers, the trembling of the torn fabric evokes strong emotions like the flickering light of a strobe light.
This work was created before Endo discovered animism, and it also serves as an important key to understanding Endo's current work.
