A collection of works by Spanish artist Coco Capitan.

Renowned for restoring historic buildings, the Belmond Luxury Hotel Group is now collaborating with some of the world's leading contemporary photographers to create destination-specific portfolios, carefully pairing each artist with the personality of the selected hotel. This book brings together Coco Capitan's photographs of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (VSOE) in spring 2023 and winter 2024.

Kapitan doesn't like planes, instead he prefers classic means of transport: cruisers, yachts, vintage cars and of course the classic train journey. So when he was invited to photograph VSOE with its original 1920s carriages and historic routes across Europe, there was no reason for Kapitan to turn down the offer.

Inside the VSOE vehicle, Kapitan took his most instinctive approach. His images, which seem like those of an inquisitive tourist traveling with friends, range from playful snapshots to contemplative moments. Kapitan's photographs and the series title remind us that the path of a journey is just as important as the destination: this new reality is fleeting, and will soon become someone else's.
