This is the 14th issue of AUTOBIOGRAPHY, a series published by the Italian publisher TONINI EDITORE that features one artist each month.
Within the same design and page count, artists express their autobiographical themes through text and images. The artists for each issue are selected by collector and founder of the Colegio Moraes-Barbosa, art historian Alex Bacon, Claudio Guenzani of the gallery Studio Guenzani, artist, composer and typographer Michele Lombardelli, writer, researcher and initiator of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India Shwetal Ashvin Patel, collector and scholar Christoph Schifferli and Valentino Tonini, director of homonymic publishing house.
Issue 14 features Berlin-based German artist Stefan Marx. Heavily influenced by skateboarding culture, he creates artwork for zines, t-shirts, record covers, and skateboards, while also holding exhibitions in galleries, effortlessly crossing the boundaries between DIY culture and fine art. His monochrome works and paintings, often featuring lyrics and dialogue in his own unique style, are a carefree comment on modern society. His comical illustrations, paintings, and slogans of everyday scenes are rooted in street culture but appeal to our cultural consciousness. In this work, various media such as sketches, paintings, snapshots, and texts are depicted in the artist's iconic style.
