This book delves into the worldview of sculptor Akio Omori, and is woven together with photographs of his works and words uttered during his creative activities. The title, "Kotoba" (Words), is a word coined by the author.
In his creative work, Omori refers to "fragments of words carved from his own body," likening them to the "wood chips" that fly off in the process of chiseling a piece of wood. "I like people, animals, and things that give a glimpse of their stories, roots, and backgrounds," is one passage in the book. Omori creates sculptures that seem to have life by carefully researching his favorite motifs. His works have a variety of faces, including large statues, mirrored works, tables, lamps, and belt buckles. In addition to 91 sculptures, this book includes snapshots from the past and close-up documentary photographs of the artist's work up to the start of carving a new piece. The words spoken by the artist himself that accompany the photographs give us an insight into Omori Akio as a sculptor and as a person.
