From the text
I think many people sympathized with Nausicaa's attitude in "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind," who calmly observed a harsh world and tried to find the right path. Personally, I had been developing a desire to enter the world of the Sea of Decay and immerse myself in it for a long time, so I had a great time working on it. I worked while hoping that by looking at the Sea of Decay and the Ohmu that I had created, people would realize that even something a little scary can be interesting to observe, and that the joy of making things would be conveyed through the sculptures and become a trigger for something. The more I aimed to create something that looked natural rather than artificial, the more frustrated I felt when I couldn't achieve it. But that's what makes it interesting. It makes me want to do it more. In the early days, I just inflated the Moss too much, and all I could think of was turning the entire exhibition space into the Sea of Decay, so I drew rough sketches that said, "If I do this, there'll be no end to it," and "How much do you think it's going to cost?"
