The news that "TOKYO STYLE", which has enjoyed cult popularity overseas since its first edition was published more than 30 years ago, will be republished this summer by a Spanish interior publishing house, has caused a big buzz among collectors in the US. The fact that the book's contents dispel the image of Japan that people overseas have is the key to its popularity can be seen from the impactful photos full of realism. While the "KonMari Method", which has been a hot topic in the US in recent years, the "wabi-sabi" known from the tea ceremony, and the simple and refined image represented by Tadao Ando's architecture usually evoke a stereotypical impression of "good, correct, and beautiful" Japan, this book boldly overturns that and introduces the lives of ordinary people as they are. It does not show the national character of Japanese people who are considerate of others, have no ego, are simple, modest, and have nothing to do with consumer society, but in fact shows the image of Japanese people who are full of purchasing power and curiosity, who make the most of their individuality, and are full of vitality in life, enjoying life cheerfully. This book will remind you that the origins of timeless masterpieces lie not in conformity or inertia, but in innovation and challenge.

A collection of works by Kyoichi Tsuzuki, a Japanese author, editor, and photographer.
"I had no choice but to buy my first large-format camera. As I didn't have a car, I loaded my equipment onto the bottom of my scooter and rode around Tokyo for over two years. That was the beginning of my career as a photographer. Now, more than 30 years after the first edition, it feels like a small miracle that Apartomento is publishing a new edition of Tokyo Style." - Kyoichi Tsuzuki
More than 30 years after its first edition, the cult classic and iconic collector's item "Tokyo Style" is back in a new edition. This timeless photobook offers an intimate and candid look at Tokyo's truly inhabited homes. The new edition retains the lavish layout of the first edition, but with a fresh binding. A selection of the book's iconic images is presented, followed by a newly written afterword from the artist, which concludes the book by highlighting the nostalgia evoked by the works that capture the analog world of rich self-expression. Longtime friend and US-based writer Barry Yourgrau has contributed a foreword, reflecting on Tokyo's "messy and terribly cluttered" hideaways, filled with "the smutty and the quirky, the funky and the kawaii."
This book invites readers into the everyday life of one of the world's great cities and offers a template for how we can live more in touch with ourselves and our communities. "Come on, have a seat," the author beckons. "This kind of life isn't so bad."
