This is a collection of works by artist Hiraku Suzuki, who sees "drawing" as an act of "excavating" the line between pictures and words, and continues to expand its possibilities through a wide range of techniques, capturing the trajectory of his drawings over the past 10 years.
The book is made up of over 200 illustrations, selected from two-dimensional works and murals created with silver marker and spray paint between 2010 and 2019. The paper selected for each series is published as an independent booklet, bound in a heavy-duty codex, providing a surprise with every turn of the page. The printing technique, which skillfully uses silver ink, creates an effect in which the silver (reflection of light) and the marker (marks and traces) invert light and dark on the page.
Additionally, texts contributed from the fields of archaeology, cultural anthropology, and art, woven together to resonate with the lines excavated by Hiraku Suzuki, will shed new light on the space between "drawing" and "writing."
This is a special edition in which Hiraku Suzuki himself has engraved a line (trace) on the back cover of each book. .
