The fragrances incorporate the perfumer's own knowledge of plants, as well as inspiration from flower arrangement, tea ceremony, and incense ceremony, and many of the ingredients are imported directly from a historic fragrance company in Grasse, southern France, the mecca of perfume.

From the age of 12, she learned the Sogetsu school of flower arrangement and the Urasenke school of tea ceremony, becoming a master and acquiring a tea ceremony name. As an adult, she learned the art of incense (Sanjonishigoya school), incorporating Japanese traditions into her perfumes.
