What is a "snack"? Is it food that fills you up? Is it a sweet treat to enjoy while chatting with friends? Is it a time to spend with your family? Or is it a small break from work? Is it a luxury to eat secretly by yourself?
Yes, there are as many types of snacks as there are people. Oyatsu Magazine explores all things snack-related, from food and lifestyle to culture, history and science, traveling around the world.
There is almost no information about popular shops or sweets that will make you crave them. What I want to convey is the richness of time that comes from having snacks.
You can eat it, or you can choose not to. Sweet? Salty? This is a grand project that aims to unravel the ambiguous concept of "snacks" from multiple perspectives.
We aim to provide content that is universal, something you can return to at any time, and heartwarming, something that is not found in the rushing digital information.
For the inaugural issue, 14 authors contributed stories on the theme of "Everyone's Snack Stories." They share very personal stories about snacks. There is also a page that delves into the familiar yet surprisingly little-known question, "What are snacks?", as well as an interview with a brain scientist, an exploration of local snacks in Japan, and on-site reporting in search of "Vietnamese snacks."
