About the productJapanese

World-renowned photographer Daido Moriyama selected some of his own work and printed it onto slide film, but now, awakened from a quarter-century slumber, he is shining once again.

This book was produced following the discovery, a quarter of a century later, of a film that was shown as a slide in the "Daido Moriyama: Stray Dog" exhibition held at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 1999. The exhibition subsequently toured the United States and Europe, marking the start of Daido Moriyama's step onto the world stage and leading to his international success.

The book includes 140 of Daido Moriyama's own works, which he selected and printed onto slide film at the time (1999). Editing, binding design, and publishing were handled by Satoru Machiguchi, one of Japan's leading bookbinders.

The cover features Moriyama's masterpiece "Stray Dog," with two designs, one on the front and one on the back, representing the existence of two works, one on the front and one on the back, in the process of spreading to the world since the time of the photo (1971/Misawa City, Aomori Prefecture).

In addition, four world-renowned curators share their stories of how they met Moriyama (in English), and Moriyama himself reads each story and gives a valuable interview (in English) looking back on those days.

As a special bonus for the Japanese release, a Japanese translation booklet containing all of these texts is included.
