About the productJapanese

An intimate portrait of seven children growing up

Peggy Nolan is a photographer and mother of seven children (four boys and three girls), and this book is a carefully selected collection of thousands of black-and-white photographs she took while raising her children in the suburbs near Miami from the early 1980s onwards.

Nolan studied writing in college, but he gave up his dream of becoming a writer when he married young and focused on raising his children. But when he was 40 years old, his father gave him a Nikon camera, and he developed a passion for documenting the world around him. In his late 40s, he enrolled at Florida International University, where he spent the next few decades managing a darkroom, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in photography, mentoring students, and participating in various exhibitions and projects.

The author and mother of seven knows adolescence, boredom and messiness all too well, and as a photographer she captures it all intimately, exquisitely and without prejudice.
