This is a collection of works exhibited at the photo exhibition "Just Gentle" by photographer Ittetsu Matsuoka, held at Takaishi Gallery in 2020.

"This exhibition will display works compiled under the theme of the exhibition's title, 'Just Kindness,' centering on works featured in the photo book 'Marii,' which was compiled from the enormous collection of 504 images compiled by Matsuoka from the tens of thousands of negatives he continuously took of his daily life with his wife over a period of more than five years from the planning stage.

The images, taken with the artist's uniform gaze, capture personal everyday scenes in a uniform way, evoke familiar emotions in the viewer from the subjects and the cityscape, while at the same time bringing about a mysterious feeling that seems to affirm the existence of everything that appears there, and inviting the viewer into a quietly yet powerful world of work. Matsuoka is interested in flattening images through color, and his works, taken with his long-time favorite Olympus μ (Mu), are clad in a unified pale color tone, and incorporate the blur and blurring and softness that are unique to analog cameras to create a unique floating feeling. As the artist says, "I photograph hope as it is," Matsuoka carefully captures the landscapes that continue to fluctuate, as if to loosen the rigidly formed world.
