[Bonus] Comes with two special postcards from "The Poor Things"
This photo book by Greek film director Yorgos Lanthimos features photographs he took himself on the set of his film, The Wretched Ones.
Color and black and white, past and present. The fantastical, dreamlike images seem to float between these two worlds, revealing the many layers between the reality of the cast, staff and set, and the fiction of the characters and the setting of the film.
The setting of "The Wretched Ones" is different in the late 19th century, including London, Lisbon, Marseille and a passenger ship, all of which are recreated in Budapest. The shots are intentionally widened to reveal the structure of the set, creating another story within "The Wretched Ones". The binding is also chosen to suit each shot, giving the impression of holding the film itself in your hands, even though it is a book.
The title is taken from the postcard that Bella Baxter, the protagonist played by Emma Stone, was supposed to send to her father, God, from Athens in the film. It also includes an unpublished poem by Patti Smith inspired by "The Unfortunate."
