Since emerging as a leading member of the Pop Art movement in the 1960s, Peter Blake has become one of the best-known and most popular artists of his generation. While primarily a painter, he has worked in a variety of media including drawing, watercolor, collage, sculpture and printmaking, and has also produced graphic and commercial art such as album covers. In 1967 he designed the Beatles album Sgt. Pepper.

Furthermore, his radical collage paintings from 1959 to 1962 combined existing images from popular culture in bold, vivid colors, making him a uniquely influential figure in British Pop.
