About the productJapanese

A collection of works by Japanese photographer Osamu Yokonami, who is active in fashion magazines, advertising, etc. The works included in this book are set on a farm in Higashikawa Town, Kamikawa District, Hokkaido, and are a series created using the medium of photography with the artist's unique techniques and expressions.

Aiming his camera directly at his subjects, the artist transforms ordinary bodies, farm tools, and local produce into deeply memorable scenes. A headless-looking man, a face covered in an eggplant mask, a baby left lying on a rice sack, a shirtless person kneeling in the grass while balancing two large tomatoes on his back, and other images exude unexpected strangeness and familiarity. This work suggests the existence of a moment of performative complicity between the artist as photographer and the people he photographs. When you sense the fragility and weakness of the subjects you are aiming your lens at, the question arises: "Who on earth is playing who in this work?"

The book includes a foreword by Tony Cederteg, editor, designer, and founder of LIBRARYMAN, the publishing house that published the book.
