After Coco Chanel passed away in 1971, Brandt went into a slump for a while, but it was Karl Lagerfeld who succeeded in restoring Chanel's fame. This book is a record of the Chanel collections from Karl Lagerfeld's first collection, the Spring/Summer 1983 Haute Couture, to the Autumn/Winter 2020 Ready-to-Wear, the latest collection at the time of publication, by Virginie Viard, who took over his design after his death in 2019.

The book begins with an introduction to the brand's history and the profile of Lagerfeld, the driving force behind Chanel's revival, followed by highlights from each collection with photographs. After his final collection, Fall/Winter 2019 ready-to-wear, there is a brief introduction to new director Virginie Viard, followed by her collection for the new Chanel. The 2016 edition only featured up to Fall/Winter 2015 haute couture, so the expanded edition includes Spring/Summer 2016 ready-to-wear through Fall/Winter 2020 ready-to-wear. The book includes all of the collections from the maison, which has many lines, including ready-to-wear, haute couture, cruise, and métiers d'art, and also includes an index of models at the end of the book, making it a must-have photo archive for anyone, even if they're not a Chanel fan.
