About the productJapanese

This is the definitive collection of hand-drawn calligraphy "pictures and prose" by book designer and graphic designer Koga Hirano, who is known for his work on numerous book covers featuring bold yet delicate hand-drawn calligraphy, as well as poster designs and stage art for the theater group "Black Tent."

On the day that Mr. Koga turned 82, his son, a photographer, took his daughter and spent a day photographing his father.... Surrounding Mr. Koga, who was growing in strength as an old man, two young designers worked hard on selecting handwritten characters, selecting works, and laying out and binding the book....

This book was compiled in this way by Hirano Koga and several other members. The motto during production was "Like a picture book." Letters are a landscape. It was inspired by these words of Mr. Koga. In addition to his own handwritten lettering works and essays, the book is a lively collection of handwritten letters, drawings, photographs, and text, including scenes from the production process and interludes (photographed by Hirano Taro), information about the activities of the temple school "Marute's School" (recorded by the editorial department), and works by his favorite illustrator (drawings by Kojima Takeshi). B5 variant, codex binding, and many color pages.
