Tanabe Chikuunsai IV was born and raised in Sakai, Osaka, a city that was once the cultural center of bamboo crafts, into a family with a 120-year history.
While producing traditional flower baskets and tea ceremony utensils using the spirit and techniques inherited from previous generations, they are also creating works that fit the new era, such as sculptural bamboo objects and bamboo installations.Exhibitions of their works have been held at the British Museum, the Guimet Museum of Asian Art in France, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and other museums, and they have been highly praised overseas.
