Specification A long-awaited new piece by popular knitwear designer Mariko Mikuni
■ Small clothes and words knitted by Mariko Mikuni with love for her dolls

"Making clothes for dolls is fun. There is something about the small size and their tiny appearance that in itself appeals to us. Our hands naturally begin to move with the feeling that 'I want to do something for them.'" (from the text)

For Mikuni, the time she spends buying antique dolls made long ago from overseas and knitting and sewing clothes for them on her days off or in her free time is irreplaceable. This book features photos of Mikuni's dolls' clothes and antique dolls wearing the clothes, along with accompanying stories.

■A story about dolls living surrounded by handmade clothes and vintage furniture

"My daily life as a dorm mother is interwoven with theirs. Their dorm life gently takes over my time, fills it up, and colors it in the form of stories." (From the article)

The story, which Mikuni-san created with great care for her dolls, is set in the Mikuni Dormitory in the residential area of Zenpukuji, Suginami Ward, Tokyo. The five international students and interns (dolls) who live there wear various clothes tailored by the dormitory mother, Mariko (Mikuni-san), and spend their time in Japan in their own way. The chapters are divided into spring, summer, fall, and winter.

The clothes and fabric accessories (bags and bedding) are one-of-a-kind items that Mikuni made just for the dolls. The miniature furniture and accessories that appear with the dolls are vintage items from overseas that Mikuni has collected.
■The story of how Mikuni met the doll and lived with it... Includes an essay about the doll

"I think I learned then that the role of a doll is to be with you, to satisfy your owner with its beauty, and to support your self-esteem." (From the text)

This book contains four essays about dolls, including memories of the doll she first encountered as a child and reunited with just before turning 50, the felt, beads, and ribbons she bought with her pocket money, making clothes for dolls using old handkerchiefs and family clothes, how to deal with the objects and dolls around you that you treat with affection, and the joy of playing alone that you can only experience as an adult.
