Specification This picture book uses beautiful illustrations to introduce each New Year's dish, such as "Black beans, shiny, sweet beans. May you live a diligent life," and "Sweet peas, kumquats, golden and golden. May you accumulate plenty of money." It also conveys the wishes contained within in rhythmic words. At the end, the book also shows the order in which the dishes are packed: first layer, second layer, third layer.
Times have changed, and there is now a wide variety of osechi dishes, but the tradition of praying for safety at the beginning of the year remains the same. I think this book will allow you to appreciate the goodness of osechi, a traditional Japanese food.
Yumi Uchida beautifully and meticulously illustrates the dishes that cooking expert Kuniko Mitsudome made with love for this picture book. Please keep this book close by when you eat your New Year's food.
[Comment from the publisher]
This work was published as the January 2024 issue of "Kodomo no Tomo All Year Round", but due to its overwhelming popularity, it sold out at the end of 2023. We are very sorry to those who were unable to purchase a copy. In response to requests, we have now made it into a hardcover edition.
We received many letters from customers saying that a wide range of people, from small children to grandparents, have picked up the book and enjoyed it. Thank you very much.
I hope this picture book will be like a talisman that brings you health and happiness. I would be delighted if you could enjoy this picture book while eating osechi at the beginning of the year.
