Specification "Decotora" is a spaceship that floats on the road in the darkness of the night.
Photographer Junji Hata has completed a photobook that he has taken over the course of 15 years.
Junji Hata, a photographer active at the forefront of magazine and advertising work, was captivated by the charm of decotora when he photographed them 15 years ago, and has continued to photograph them ever since.
Dekotora, which caused a huge boom in the 1970s with the movie "Truck Guys," is now in danger of extinction. These one-of-a-kind vehicles, with their bodies painted and decorated with lights, are unlike anything else in the world and have been attracting attention from around the world in recent years as Japanese pop art.
Junji Hata always photographs decotora at night. The decotoras, illuminated in the darkness, look like spaceships on the road. Whether it's a dream or an illusion, decotoras take us to another world.
This photo book is a thick one made of cardboard used for picture books. It is 5 cm thick and weighs 2.4 kg. It is a photo book with a heavy feel, including the photographs that decorate each page. In the enclosed separate volume, Kyoichi Tsuzuki, Masafumi Suzuki, and Natsuki Ando each contributed an article about Decotora and Junji Hata.
