Akira Tomita
Born in 1958. Graduated from the Faculty of Letters at Keio University. Completed the Graduate School of Letters at Seijo University. After working at the Sogo Museum of Art and the Suntory Museum [Tempozan], he is currently the director of Tokyo Station Gallery.
He has been involved in exhibitions such as "Lautrec: Living in a Beautiful Era in Paris," "The Great Picasso: Portraits of the Soul," "Emile Clauss and the Belgian Impressionists," "Chagall: The Three-Dimensional World," and "Mesquita."
His major papers include "Georges Seurat at the 1887 Society of Twenty: A Study on Belgian Neo-Impressionism" (1991) and "Seurat's Self-Portraits" (2011).
His books include "Disguised Self-Portraits: How Painters Lie" (Shodensha, 2014), "Impressionism BOX: Understanding through Masterpieces" (Kodansha, 2018), "Beardsley's Collection of Fantastic and Bizarre Masterpieces" (Tokyo Bijutsu, 2021 revised and expanded edition), and "Van Gogh Collection" (Tokyo Bijutsu, 2021). He has co-authored "Fascinating Belgian Art" (Kobe Shimbun Publishing Bureau, 2013) and "The Middle-Aged Aesthetic School: A Wandering Art Appreciation Technique" (Mainichi Shimbun Publishing, 2019). His translations include "Gauguin" by Alan Bowness (Nishimura Shoten, 1994) and "The Story of Witch Paintings" by Alix Paré (Graphic-sha Publishing, 2023).
