"The city is an unscripted, infinite theater of life. We spend our days as performers, wearing the costumes of the present, on the stage set of the present era.
In the 1970s, when I was a university student, student protests took place in the city, and Okinawa was under American rule until 1972. We have now come to the stage we are on today, having experienced the death of Emperor Showa, the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
On today's stage, we look at our smartphones, many foreign tourists, skyscrapers being completed every day, and old houses left behind are illuminated. If we could write a script for the stage of the future, everyone would want to sprinkle the words "peace, equality, happiness and hope" all over it.
Even so, over the past 50 years, the times that appeared and disappeared before my eyes as I held my camera were sometimes tragic.
On the other hand, sometimes they are so beautiful and lovely that I want to look at them forever.
It is so fleeting that I wish to at least preserve it in a photograph as a signpost for the future."
