About the productJapanese

A book that reveals a new side of Komuro's work

A variety of creepy-cute characters, polished to a smooth finish and painted in vivid colors... Dragons, Rokurokubi, multi-headed monsters, and other characters created by Komuro Takahiro are inspired by a variety of images, including the American comic book heroes he watched as a child, characters from science fiction movies, and legendary creatures that appeared in the books he devoured.

His works are pop and kitsch, but also have a mysterious worldview that gives off a sense of "sacredness." They are packed with Komuro's precise technique and sense as an artist, as well as detailed research information. The "magic" hidden in Komuro's works has made them popular with many figure fans both in Japan and overseas, beyond the art world.

Komuro's works begin with a 3D CG drawing of the image, and are made from a variety of materials, including wood, fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP), and bronze. The approximately 100 works featured in this book are often photographed from the back as well as the front. The designs are characterized by the ability to clearly see the details, such as the spell-like letters and symbols drawn into the works.

The text page features an interview with the artist, as well as two essays by critics who highly praise the artistic value of Komuro's work. Both essays on Komuro by Akimoto Yuji, who has served as director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and the University Art Museum of Tokyo University of the Arts, and art critic Sawaragi Noi, known for his works such as "Anti-Art Introduction" (Gentosha), "Go-Bijutsuron" and "Shinbijutsuron" (both published by Bijutsu Shuppansha), are must-reads. At the end of the book, there are 32 pages of photos taken at the production site by photographer Hirano Taro. This book reveals a new side to Komuro's work.
