About the productJapanese

Director Hirokazu Koreeda revives the classic drama "Like Ashura" (based on the original story by Kuniko Mukoda). Cameraman Mikiya Takimoto captures the changing emotions of four sisters and their families.

This masterpiece, renowned as one of screenwriter Mukoda Kuniko's masterpieces, has been brought back to life in the Reiwa era as the Netflix series "Like Ashura," directed by Koreeda Hirokazu, with a star-studded cast including Miyazawa Rie as the eldest daughter, Ono Machiko as the second daughter, Aoi Yu as the third daughter, and Hirose Suzu as the fourth daughter.

This book features approximately 100 photos taken by photographer Mikiya Takimoto, who was commissioned to photograph Kore-eda's works following "Like Father, Like Son," "The Third Murder," and "Our Little Sister," in parallel with the filming of the drama. These photos include scenes that capture the indescribable expressions of the four sisters and the supporting cast, including Masaaki Uchino, Masahiro Motoki, Ryuhei Matsuda, Kisetsu Fujiwara, Keiko Matsuzaka, and Jun Kunimura, as well as stills that instantly draw you into the setting of the film in 1979. The four sisters, who have different ways of living and views on love, clash with each other, and sometimes take each other's hands and comfort each other, as they move toward their own happiness. This book is a dignified and graceful compilation of people who live foolish, lovable, yet strong lives.
