About the productJapanese

A long-awaited Japanese translation of a masterpiece by Sophie Calle, a representative French contemporary artist known for constructing unique narrative worlds through photographs and text.

This is the complete edition of "Sophie Calloux: Severe Localized Pain," which was exhibited at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo from 1999 to 2000 and in 2019, with newly translated portions of the work not yet translated into Japanese.
At Sophie Calle's request, the Japanese edition is bound in a cloth cover with a foil-stamped title and painted on three sides in red and gold ink.
Includes a Japanese commentary by modern and contemporary art curator Okabe Aomi.

[From this book]
Localized severe pain: (medical term) Sharp pain in a specific area.
When we set off on October 25th, little did we know that it would be the start of a 92-day countdown.
What awaited me at the end was a mundane separation, but for me it was the greatest pain of my life.
I blame this stay.
On January 28, 1985, when I returned to France, I decided to talk about my suffering rather than the events of my stay, in order to ward off evil spirits.
Instead, I asked friends and chance encounters who would talk to me:
"When was your worst moment?"
I decided to continue this process until I had told everyone my story enough that I felt I had told it all, or until I had faced the suffering of others and was able to put my own pain into perspective.
This method had the power to cure the disease.
