About the productJapanese

A collection of works by American photographer William Eggleston. Raised in Mississippi and Tennessee, Eggleston began taking photographs in the 1960s after being inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson's masterpiece The Decisive Moment, and in 1966 he switched from black and white to color. This was perhaps a sign of his desire to distance himself from his internationally recognized predecessors and make photography his own unique means of expression. John Sarkowski, who was then the curator of photography at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, called Eggleston "the first color photographer." Today we view color photography as art, but it was William Eggleston who changed the world in this way.

This work is composed of photographs taken in Memphis, Tennessee from 1966 to 1971 using a 2 1/4 inch camera in square format. The design was done by Jack Woody, founder of "TWIN PALMS PUBLISHERS". It includes text by Bruce Wagner.
