73 years ago, painter Tsuguharu Foujita left Japan in 1949 after the end of World War II, traveling via New York to return to France the following year. During his stay in New York, Foujita provided illustrations for a poem about cats by poet and novelist Elizabeth Coatsworth.

A collection of over a dozen beautiful drawings of cats drawn over just two days, on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, was compiled into a picture book along with Coatsworth's poems. When the book was first published, it received the following rave review: "This lyric poem sinks into the reader's consciousness like the warmth of the sun, breathing in the wild strawberries.
