Despite being buffeted by headwinds such as the collapse of the bubble economy, the invasion of multiplex cinemas, the Lehman Shock, and the COVID-19 pandemic, mini-theaters have continued to survive alongside the streets of Shinjuku, Roppongi, Shibuya, Ginza, Jimbocho, and Ebisu.

A film critic from the same era has collected testimonies from people involved at the time, such as theaters and distribution companies, to trace the "story" of the city and movies, along with their passion and love for film, and memories of numerous masterpieces.
