"KANON" is a photobook by photographer Shinpei Yamagami. Bookbinder Satoru Machiguchi was in charge of editing and bookbinding design, and book director Masataka Haba contributed an essay at the end of the book.
───
For Yamagami Shinpei, the world was complex and inaccessible.
Camera in hand, he ventures into the mountains, staring intently at the trees there and taking photographs.
From the top of the cliff, I take photos capturing the waves crashing on the ocean.
For Yamagami, it was his only way to come into contact with the world.
One day, a wounded butterfly landed on Yamakami's hand. Even though it was injured, the butterfly tried to fly.
From that day on, Yamagami began taking photographs of butterflies.
For Yamagami, this flickering life became a means to connect him to the world.
Shinpei Yamagami Photo Collection "KANON"
This photobook, which is divided into three chapters, explores the past, present, and future of a photographer who has continued to fear and deny peace.
The composition is such that the robot flutters along with the butterfly and chases after it.
KANON ─ A round of flickering lives
The photographs on the mountain capture the despair and hope of those of us living in modern times.
