Young people passing by on the train, couples holding hands, girls playing in the park...every time she clicks the shutter, their eyes may meet for a moment, but Hara Mikiko never exchanges a word with them. Yet these portraits reveal something infinitely personal, as if the photographer and the subject are bound by an invisible promise to be "in the right place at the right time."

Cut flowers in the sink, strawberry shortcake in the refrigerator, three sons dozing on the floor. The photographer, who is also a mother and wife, moves her gaze from outside to inside, from public to private. Wherever she is, Mikiko Hara observes and tells a story like a slice of life.
The unpublished photographs, spanning the years 1996 to 2021, have been compiled into a book entitled "Small Myths," under the initiative of the publisher, who worked in collaboration with the artist to select the works.
