The first monograph dedicated to Winogrand's color works
Garry Winogrand (1928-1948), a New York-born photographer, began taking street photos in the early 1960s, known as street snaps, and was a leading figure in American photography for several decades. He is one of the most representative photographers of the 20th century. While photographers before Winogrand focused on "correct composition" and "good design," Winogrand's work, which focused on the "abstract distance" that appears momentarily in street snaps between humans, humans and animals, and crowds and their social backgrounds, and captured them allegorically, suggested a new form of photographic expression. However, Winogrand only published four photobooks during his lifetime (The Animals (1969), Women Are Beautiful (1975), Public Relations (1977), and Stock Photographs: The Fort Worth Fat Stock Show and Rodeo (1980)), so the release of this book was eagerly anticipated by collectors. When you open this book, you can see the photographer wandering around the noisy streets of Manhattan and Coney Island crowded with beachgoers as he pleases, taking pictures with the innocence of a curious child, giving the viewer a cheerful feeling. This is a gem of a book of street photography. Text: Miwa Susuda (Manager of Dashwood Books / Director of Session Press)

Photographer Garry Winogrand is known for his black and white street photography, but he also took over 45,000 color slides between the early 1950s and the late 1960s. Winogrand routinely carried two cameras around his neck, one loaded with color film and the other with black and white film.
In Winogrand Color, American film director Michael Almereyda and former MoMA curator Susan Kismaric present 150 carefully selected photographs from the Center for Creative Photography archives. It is the first monograph dedicated to Winogrand's rarely seen color work.
