About the productJapanese

This is a collection of works by Wolfgang Tillmans, a German photographer based in London and Germany, who won the Turner Prize, one of the most important awards in the contemporary art world, in 2000. The subject, Conor Donlon, is the photographer's former assistant and the owner of the London bookstore Donlon Books. The photos were taken over a period of 15 years, and through the eyes of his friend Donlon, arranged in chronological order, they depict the friendship between the two men, as well as the lifestyle, cultural scene, and nightlife of London and its changes.

This book is the fourth in the same style that the author himself has worked on editorial design, following "CONCORDE," "FRUIT LOGISTICA" and "THE CARS."

"For years I'd been thinking about the possibility of doing a monochromatic portrait book using photographs of friends taken over a period of time. I finally had the time to get started over Christmas and am very happy with the draft I've produced for Conor Donlon.
The book follows a chronological period over a 15-year period and is not only a portrait of one man, but also of friendship, the city of London and the nightlife of a part of East London that no longer exists.
Haircuts, men's fashion....various elements like these emerge through the perspective of time. For example, if you say "The Ghetto," "Joiners Arms," or "George & Dragon," Londoners will know them, right? - Wolfgang Tillmans
