About the productJapanese

This is a collection of works by Brazilian-born, Paris-based photographer Marcelo Gomes. This book brings together the work he has captured over the last decade, and attempts to distort and obscure the very idea of a photobook. The lack of binding allows the viewer to freely arrange the visual and poetic sequences expressed in the work.

The printing, the choice of paper and its texture, and the fragmented narrative are meticulously constructed, creating a vague, dreamy, yet casual record of the author's daily life. The records of her travels in search of joy and intimacy in Nicaragua, New Zealand, Brussels, New York, Rome, and her native Brazil leave a faint sense of nostalgia, and the impressions soften and melt away. As the author Durga Chew-Bose writes in her introduction, this book reminds us that "to see is to stop and look around."
