About the productJapanese

Rao's Newsstand is a small shop in downtown Manhattan, New York. It's a street corner kiosk. It sells newspapers, magazines, gum, chocolate, cigarettes, lottery tickets, and other things.
Rao's Newsstand is run by an Indian man named Prakash Rao, who came to New York from Gujarat about 40 years ago and opened this small store about 30 years ago, and still stands at the front of the store every day.
These photos are a record of the shop from "inside" from 1996 to 2004. They were taken in the spot where Rao stands every day.
In other words, this is a photo book that borrows Rao's perspective on everyday life.
