"This is a book that I worked on as if it were my will to this country," says the author. It is the culmination of 15 years of work by this extraordinary flower artist, and is nothing short of a monumental achievement in which he has taken it upon himself to answer the questions of what flowers are and what Japan is.
This is a substantial expansion and addition to the "Kawase Toshiro - The Tatehana Myth" series (2006-2011) in Geijutsu Shincho.

"Arranging Flowers" originated from my long-held desire to confront "tatehana," which is said to be the origin of Ikebana.
Although the shape of the "tatehana" is simple, it is a remarkable flower that lies on the border between religion and performing arts.
When it leans towards the arts, it becomes reduced to form and moves away from the true essence of "building."
I was looking for a flower that would connect me to the source of life beyond the performing arts.
Of course, there is no right answer, and in order to create the "flower that lies beyond the arts," the only way was for me to live my life as a creator.
It was a constant process of trial and error, but also days of bliss.
Fifteen years have passed since the photoshoot, and the journey of my life as "Tateru" has finally been compiled into a book, and the time has come for it to leave my hands.
