About the productJapanese

This is a portfolio set of Robert Doisneau's works produced by Benrido in Kyoto, a company that possesses color collotype printing techniques that are rare worldwide.

It was published in conjunction with the solo exhibition "Photographer Doisneau/Music/Paris" at Bunkamura The Museum.
The fine gradations of the collotype vividly depict the daily lives of ordinary people as captured through Doisneau's gaze.

[What is collotype?]
This printing technique was created in France in 1855. In Japan, it was also called glass printing because it uses beautiful glass plates as the original plate. One of its features is continuous tone without halftone dots, which reproduces the subtle nuances of color and the fineness of lines just like the original. Another feature is that the ink is extremely durable, making it suitable for permanent storage.
