"Open Sky" is a project started by media artist Kazuhiko Hachiya in 2003 to "create an actual Möhve (the flying device from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind)." After the basic design of the aircraft, the production of an experimental model, and low-altitude test flights, flight tests of a jet-engine-equipped model began in Noda City, Chiba Prefecture in 2013.
The location was then moved to Hokkaido, where repeated flights were made through various trial and error, and test flights were conducted again in Noda City in 2018.
This book traces those five years of history with photographs of the vast sky.
