Beautiful, interesting, full of dreams, endless.
Official art book for the "Seiichi Horiuchi Exhibition FASHION・FANTASY・FUTURE" held at PLAY! MUSEUM.
Everyone has surely seen the large elephant picture in the picture book "Gurumpa's Kindergarten" and the logos of magazines "anan", "BRUTUS" and "POPEYE". Even if you know them, it is surprising to know that they were all created by the same person. Why? It may be because Seiichi Horiuchi was an artist with a free mind who worked on a wide range of projects.
He has worked on many projects as a picture book author, illustrator, art director, designer, and sometimes photographer. He has created picture books in a variety of styles, magazines with new expressions, paintings, lithographs, maps, posters, travel journals, essays, and illustrated letters, and it is hard to believe that he has done the work of just one person.
How did Horiuchi, who continued to produce a wide variety of works until his death in 1987 at the age of 54, view the world? Approximately 100 paintings, photographs, and words are lavishly scattered throughout the exhibition, which focuses on four themes, including "The world is so beautiful" and "The world is endless," to explore his intellect, curiosity, and compassionate perspective that attracts those involved.
