Derek Jarman, a filmmaker who died of AIDS in 1994.
In his later years, he moved to Dungeness, a cape at the very end of southeast England, close to a nuclear power station. The garden at Prospect Cottage, which he lovingly nurtured until just before his death, came to reflect his life and death.

Accompanied by the beautiful photographs of photographer Howard Thule, Jarman's peaceful days and hidden passions are chronicled in this book, which explores his gardens, plants, friends and lovers, and his own illness and death.

His last essay before his death has finally been republished in a new translation by a translator who was both an aesthetician and a gardener!
