Luis Barragán (1902-88) is one of Mexico's leading architects. His style is modern and reflects Mexico's rich lyricism, with vibrant pink and red colors, sculptural wall compositions, and the relationship between buildings and courtyards that boldly use water, which anticipates landscape architecture. He gained worldwide attention after an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1976, and in 1980 he won the Pritzker Prize, the most prestigious award in the architecture world. This book features five houses, including Barragán's own house. Houses designed by architects are often introduced with photos taken immediately after completion, but this book is composed of the best photos, mainly those taken by architect Yutaka Saito, who has been fascinated by Barragán's architecture and has been exploring it for the past 20 years, when he returned to Mexico. The book also contains captions that provide the key to deciphering the secrets of the beauty of the houses.
