Tadao Ando Collection Vol. 4! The tireless challenge of creation
This is the fourth collection of works by architect Tadao Ando. Volume 1 introduced his residential works, Volume 2 his overseas works, and Volume 3 his domestic projects. Volume 4 introduces 19 of his latest works, selected from those completed since 2008, ranging from domestic and international residential works to large-scale overseas projects and ongoing projects.
Six and a half years have passed since the publication of "Tadao Ando's Architecture 3" (October 2008), a series originally planned to be completed in three volumes. Going beyond the boundaries of architectural use and location, this book introduces works from both within Japan and overseas, ranging from homes to public buildings such as museums, as well as works in Asia that have been attracting attention in recent years, through beautiful photographs, blueprints, and hand-drawn sketches and explanations by Ando himself. The book crystallizes the trajectory of Ando's further challenges, and conveys the "power" of architecture that transcends time.
At the end of the book, the author also introduces the full scope of his various activities in the "Urban Projects" that he has been working on for many years, a challenge to urban and environmental creation alongside his design work. He was also deeply involved in the reconstruction efforts following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the book talks about Ando's passion, which has now gone beyond the role of an architect.
Mr. Ando's passion for design and his continued challenging spirit give us courage and teach us a lot, including the imagination, thinking ability, and execution ability necessary to survive in the future.
This is a book that I would recommend not only to those involved in architecture, but to people in a variety of fields.
