[Artist Statement]
Each work is a new attempt, and the results have led to new works.
There should be no boundaries between painting with a brush, carving wood with a chisel, and sewing cloth with a needle.
The yarn is beautiful, the fabric is soft, and creating is a way to let go of so many things.

[Artist Profile]
Aya Cagiu
Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1978, he graduated from Tama Art University's Department of Sculpture, majoring in materials design in 2001.
Through the meaning of the embroidery technique and the physical phenomena of the materials, Kagyu has developed her own unique expression that has transformed embroidery from a two-dimensional, craft-like perception to one that has a three-dimensional, tranquil worldview.
His works are inspired by places he has visited, ruins, novels, music, etc., and are created by Kagyu using familiar natural objects such as shells, stones, and fallen leaves as motifs.
The snail repeatedly unravels and layers the thread. The accumulation of moments created by freely moving through time on the fabric evokes individual memories, emotions, and imagination.
While building on the traditions of embroidery in Japanese art, her works incorporate a sculptural sense of space and outstanding sensibility, and have been exhibited at the Takamatsu Art Museum and Yokosuka Museum of Art, as well as in the traveling exhibition "Transcendental Craftsmanship, Towards the Future!" from 2023, establishing her as a unique contemporary artist using embroidery.
