About the productJapanese

"Edo Kiriko" is a traditional craft designated by both Japan and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
"Edo Kiriko" refers to the technique of cutting and decorating the surface of glass with patterns, and the patterns themselves. Edo Kiriko is packed with techniques that can only be achieved by someone who understands light, such as refracting light with deep grooves, gathering fine lines to create a reflective effect, and sometimes softening the light by making it frosted glass.

This product features a traditional Edo Kiriko glass pattern called "Kiku-tsunagi-mon" (connected chrysanthemums), which is derived from the fact that it resembles a chrysanthemum flower that symbolizes immortality and longevity, and the design features the first unit, which has been blasted. The standard colors of Kiriko are red and blue, but the "golden purple" used to reproduce the color of the first unit is a very precious material, as only a few factories can produce it.

<Nekoto Nemoto>
The third generation owner of Nemoto Glass Crafts, who continues to produce the highest quality Edo Kiriko glass in downtown Tokyo.
Using his own eyes, sensibilities and inherited techniques, he cuts the glasses as precisely as possible, creating beautiful curves that make them truly works of art.

■What is Edo Kiriko?

"Edo Kiriko" refers to the technique of cutting and decorating the surface of glass with patterns, and the patterns themselves. ■ Nemoto Yukinori, the third generation owner of Nemoto Glass Crafts

The person who commissioned the design and cutting of these glasses was Nemoto Yukinori, the third generation owner of Nemoto Glass Crafts, which continues to produce the finest Edo Kiriko glass in downtown Tokyo. Using his own eyes, sensibilities and inherited techniques, he creates glasses with the most precise cuts possible, creating beautiful curves that can be considered works of art. Due to his high level of technique and design, he continues to receive requests from famous people such as wealthy Japanese people, entertainers and professional athletes to create custom-made, one-of-a-kind glasses.

■How EVA Edo Kiriko glass is made

1. A design of EVA Unit 01 is blasted onto the Edo Kiriko glass, and a marker is used to mark the cutting guide.
The color of the glass is "gold purple" to reproduce the color of the first unit. This material is extremely rare, as there are very few factories that can produce it.
We also use high-quality crystal glass, which has a high degree of transparency and refractive index.
2. Use the markers as a guide to cut out the base pieces.
3. Add the chrysanthemum motif.
The glass is decorated with the traditional "chrysanthemum motif," which originated from the fact that it resembles a chrysanthemum flower, which symbolizes eternal youth and longevity.
This completes the cutting. After this, remove the marker and polish it with a polishing agent.
4. Take the marker
The marker (yellow line) used as a guide for cutting is scraped off using a special machine.
5. Wash.
This is the condition after washing with water.
6. Finish by polishing with a polishing agent.
This is the finished product after polishing. The crystal glass is very transparent, and the light from the lighting shines through the glass, projecting the design onto the floor.
This book is available exclusively TSUTAYA BOOKS. The number of copies produced and the period of sale are limited, so please make your reservation early.
