This photo collection was taken by photographer Jumonji Yoshinobu with the latest high-definition digital cameras of the 165 sliding door paintings in 13 rooms at Daijoji Temple in Kasumi-cho, Hyogo Prefecture, which was created by Edo period painter Maruyama Okyo in the final years of his career, together with his school of painters including Nagasawa Rosetsu and Goshun. This large-format photo collection, modified A3 size, recreates the 13 rooms based on Okyo's meticulous spatial planning, showing where each room occupies and how it responds to its surroundings, while also showing the relationships between adjacent rooms and recreating even the most outstanding brushstrokes.
For the first time in 13 years, the sliding door paintings, which had been stored in a storehouse for preservation, were returned to their original locations for the photo shoot of this photo book, and Yoshinobu Jumonji took a daring photograph of all 13 rooms of the sliding door paintings, which are arranged in a way that adorns the principal image, using a state-of-the-art digital camera boasting 100 million pixels to mix full-length images with close-up shots. Under the photographer's irreplaceable aesthetic sense, a rich pictorial space emerges that is hard to believe was painted over 200 years ago. This is a book that allows you to fully enjoy Daijoji Temple, a famous temple in Kasumi that is known only to a select few and is rumored to be designated a national treasure in the near future.
