TIME ELAPSED TIME REMAINING is a photobook that captures the mysterious nature of Europe's eastern border, a symbol of international cooperation amid the recent rise of geopolitical conflict and the resurgence of nationalism in Europe. Through 115 striking images, photographer Pete Voelker explores the so-called historic border area between East and West.

In his artist statement, Voelker explains that the project began at a time when he was engaged in passionate discussions about borders and nationalism. He travelled and studied in the Baltics to understand the impact of conceptual divisions on identity. Voelker challenges the notion that borders shape identity and exposes how ruling classes exploit divisions for political and economic gain.

Having travelled to countries including Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, Voelker's photographs capture the struggles for independence, the technological impact of borders and the ever-present threat of occupation.

Highlighting the important role of border zones and the potential threats they face, Voelker celebrates their fragile beauty and resilience, and calls for support and encouragement of transnational solidarity.
