A collection of works from Spanish artist Coco Capitan's first solo exhibition in Japan, "NAIVY."
"Naivy" is a recently completed series over 10 years in the making that explores themes of adventure, belonging and loss of innocence.
In this series, Kapitan creates an imaginary ocean world inhabited by Lost Naivies, or naive navy sailors.
The people who appear in these photographs are mythical, yet clumsy and immaturely human.
It is like the mysterious merpeople who sparkle underwater and move between various sexualities.
Through his photographs and handwritten texts, Kapitan has created playful and delicate works that leave a lingering impression of great sensitivity and sharply question existing values.
By emphasizing the uniqueness and beauty that is often overlooked in our mundane everyday lives, the work consciously encourages the process of looking at photographs.
This book contains a complete collection of 50 photographs from the "Naivy" series.
The binding is square, imitating the square frames used in the solo exhibitions. This is a collection of works that allows you to enjoy the white space between the photographs and the text.
